Government Upgrades 2025/26 Cocoa Producer Price
Government Raises Cocoa Producer Price to GH₵5,800 per Tonne
The government has increased the cocoa producer price to GH₵5,800 per tonne following an emergency meeting of the Producer Price Review Committee. This decision was announced by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, who highlighted that the new price corresponds to GH₵3,625 per bag of 64 kilograms.
This adjustment marks an increase of approximately GH₵400 per bag, representing a 12.27% rise compared to the price set in August. The previous producer price for the 2025/2026 crop season was established at GH₵51,660 per tonne, which equated to GH₵3,228.75 per 64kg bag. This was an increase from the GH₵49,600 per tonne rate in the previous season.
The updated price will come into effect on Friday, October 3rd, 2025. Notably, the margins, fees, and rates for all other stakeholders, including COCOBOD, will remain unchanged.
Dr. Forson explained that the earlier price was determined based on projections using world cocoa prices and exchange rates. However, subsequent changes necessitated a review of the producer price. “It is important for us to revisit the producer’s price given these developments,” he said.
He emphasized that COCOBOD will continue to implement various interventions aimed at supporting cocoa production and improving the welfare of farmers. These initiatives include:
- The continued supply of free cocoa fertilizers (liquid and granular), insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers.
- The ongoing implementation of the new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers, scheduled to begin in the 2026/27 academic year.
The government remains dedicated to supporting the Ghana Cocoa Board in building a robust and resilient cocoa industry. This effort aims to ensure sustainable and optimal benefits for all stakeholders involved in the sector.
